After nearly three decades, Kate Winslet remains one of the most celebrated actresses in Hollywood. But if you'd asked her drama teacher to predict her success, the forecast would've been a lot different. "When I was only 14, I was told by a drama teacher that I might do OK, if I was happy to settle for the fat girl parts," Winslet said upon receiving her 2016 BAFTA for Steve Jobs (via The Hollywood Reporter). "Look at me now."
"So what I feel like saying in those moments is — to any young woman who has ever been put down by a teacher, by a friend, or even a parent, just don't listen to any of it, because that's what I did," she added. "I didn't listen and I kept on going and I overcame my fears and I got over a lot of insecurity."
Now, after a childhood without "positive reinforcement about body image," she's teaching her daughter Mia the exact opposite. "I stand in front of the mirror and say to Mia, 'We are so lucky we have a shape. We're so lucky we're curvy. We're so lucky that we've got good bums,'" Winslet explained on a 2015 episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls (via Cosmopolitan). "And she'll say, 'Mummy, I know, thank God.'" Winslet is a strong Hollywood advocate for body confidence and we hope the industry follows this leading lady's lead!
